We got to Venice at around 9am and then we had to take a vaporetto to the actual island, and from there we just explored. It was a big group of us, 12, so we probably made quite the spectacle with our masks. We had so much time there, and Venice is an extremely small city (I have read that you can walk it in 90 mins), that we just wound up wandering and exploring the narrow streets. The architecture there is quite unbelievable.
houses along the canal;
quaint apartments.
I had been to Venice before and seen its amazing narrow walkways and bridges, but this weekend was special. Everyone was decked out in costumes and masks!
That's me and a clown who made me that balloon heart. I bought my mask in Florence and it is handcrafted from paper mache, and hand painted. It is a great souvenir and will go perfectly with my room at home!
This couple's outfits is one of the bunch that we saw and took pictures of. So pretty.
Although we were just there for a day, I feel like a day is enough time to explore this very touristy, but beautiful and unique city. How many cities have public transportation on water?! I would definitely suggest going to the Carnival is you have the chance, especially since we all know Venice is sinking.
Ciao!
